Si escuchamos o leemos el nombre de Adelina Virginia Stephen, al lado de una foto, no nos asaltaría la curiosidad ante el mismo. Quizás le daríamos una simple mirada a la foto para curiosear el rostro de una muchacha de cabellos largos y abundantes, recogidos detrás del cuello de una manera informal, mostrando unas orejas sublimes y perfectamente hermosas, de perfil suave y mirada de párpados entornados, boca de labios carnosos y sensuales. Barbilla redondeada.
Este es el rostro de Virginia Wolf, una mujer en lucha contra lo onírico, de un temperamento de búsqueda incesante de su propio ser.
Virginia Wolf hizo una de las contribuciones más importantes del s. XX, a la novelística Inglesa: el monólogo interior. Una técnica literaria en que los personajes y sus circunstancias normales y cotidianas aparecen como extraordinarias.
Esta mujer toma el apellido de su primer esposo, el historiador y ensayista Leonardo Wolf. Nació el 25 de enero de 1882, en Londres y a los 13 años, luego de la muerte de su padre pasa a vivir al barrio londinense de Bloomsburg, convirtiéndose su hogar en VIRGINIA WOOLF Y SU PADRE
un centro de reunión de libres pensadores y compañeros universitarios de su hermano mayor.
La Editorial “The Hogares”, casa fundada en 1917 por los esposos Wolf fue el medio que sirvió a la joven para lanzarse al escenario literario, dándose a conocer en el mundo de la literatura. Así PUBLICA.

Es en la novela “LA SRA. DALLOWAY” donde V W pone en evidencia su influencia sicoanalítica alimentada con las lecturas de S. Freud.

Es en esta novela en la que la narradora suelta a sus personajes de manera descubierta abriendo su mundo interior por medio de metáforas, símbolos e imágenes dando a su narrativa un estilo poético único. Demostrando que sus obras de ficción son el antecedente de la novela sicológica en la Literatura Inglesa.
Esta mujer de frágil salud, se suicida a los 59 años, lanzándose al río Ouse en Sussex, el 29 de marzo de 1941, dicen que para la rápida inmersión de su cuerpo, llenó los bolsillos de su vestido con piedras.
