Su figura trovadoresca del s.XVIII no se aviene en nada con la del naciente s.XXI y aquella melena blanca en canas, no a la manera de Nicolás Guillén, sino más sobria, bien peinada y amoldada al estilo renacimiento me abstraía de tal manera que quedaba intrigado por varios minutos.

Vi a este hombre en días pasados, varias veces. Siempre acompañado de su esposa, de andar reposado los dos, tranquilos y en silencio pasaban por mi lado, dos o tres veces por semana, para su consulta médica.
Siempre pensé que era, al menos, un Profesor de Literatura de la Universidad por el porte y esa etérea manera de manifestarse en público con algún libro que indicaba su gusto por la lectura. Siempre pensé que era poeta.
Preguntando a uno y a otros, pude corroborar algunas de las presuntas ideas que sobre ese personaje me pude hacer.
-Es pintor- me dijeron.
Y ya, mucho menos intransigente la curiosidad, me dije a mí mismo "pues bien, es artista".
Una mañana lo abordé con intenciones de darle a conocer, sin más allá ni más acá, mi vocación por la literatura. Esa primera conversación terminó con la entrega de mi libro de relatos infantiles, DUENDERIA, en sus manos.
Hoy, es decir, en estos momentos nuestra amistad artística ha trascendido las fronteras del mero conocimiento y nos hemos puesto de acuerdo para algún que otro proyecto de ilustración por su parte, y de la mía un trabajo de promoción a su pintura.
Isaura su acompañante, comparte con él los años de vida y de las artes plásticas, a ella también le debo alguna que otra mirada a su obra y a su condición de artista.

En 1946 entró en la Escuela Anexa de Bellas Artes en San Alejandro, La Habana.
Participó con Luis Gua en varias exposiciones en Prado y Neptuno y en la Catedral de la Habana.
Cuenta con 8 murales realizados en La Habana y exposiciones en España, Inglaterra, Haití y México.
De un hablar mesurado y con bases totalmente didácticas, Arturo Potestad, a pesar de conocer personalmente a Wilfredo Lam, Amelia Pelaez, Ziqueiro y Portocarrero, me confiesa que realmente siente que de ninguno de ellos tomó escuela. Su estilo lo ha desarrollado con los estudios que ha realizado desde siempre y a los que ha dedicado gran parte de su vida.
Arturo Potestad reside en Estados Unidos desde 1967. Con sus noventa y dos años, su arte se pasea aún por los salones y galería de la plástica en el Down Town de Miami.

Según Potestad, estas muestras, de las cuales tomé foto, es lo último que está haciendo. Queda aquí, como la iluminación de lo inédito o, como diría el propio artista, 'como pan caliente'


ARTURO POTESTAD: abstraction and objectivity

I saw this man in recent days, several times. Always accompanied by his wife, walking two rested, calm and quietly passed by my side, two or three times a week for medical consultation.
I always thought it was, at least, a Professor of Literature at the University by the size and ethereal way to express this in public with a book that showed his love of reading. I always thought he was a poet.
And asking one another, I was able to corroborate some of the alleged ideas about that character that I could do.
It is a painter, told me.
And now, much less intransigent curiosity, I said to myself "well, is an artist."
One morning I began with the intent to give to know, no more and no further than here, my vocation for literature. That conversation ended with the first shipment of my book of short stories for children, DUENDERIA in their hands.
Today, that is, at present our artistic friendship has transcended the boundaries of mere knowledge and we have agreed that for any other project of enlightenment for their part, and my work to promote his painting.
Isaura his companion shared with him years of life and the arts, it is also one that I have another look at his work and his status as an artist.
In 1946 he entered the School of Fine Arts Annexed in San Alejandro, Havana.
With Luis Gua participated in several exhibitions in Prado and Neptune and the Cathedral of Havana.

Arturo Potestad resides in the United States since 1967. With its ninety-two years, his art is still walking the halls and art gallery in the Down Town Miami.

ERNESTO R. del VALLE- Cuba (1940) lives in Miami.
Poet and storyteller, Professor of Literature and English. Was nominated for "Poet of the Month" by the magazine AVE VIAJERA in Colombia. His poems appear in various anthologies edited in Cuba, Argentina and Spain. Has published stories in various magazines and forums in the Digital and Cultural Approaches to the tabloid newspaper EL SIGLO disappeared in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where he lived for four years.
